Chamonix is probably best known as the skiing and alpine capital of the world. The Valley cuts deep through Europe’s highest mountains and glaciers and as a destination it has a reputation for the extreme. It is home to the highest ski lift in the world; the famous ‘Vallee Blanche’ which is a 22km off piste run, boasting dramatic scenery. The slopes are spread across 5 areas, offering distinctly different terrain - ranging from big wide beginner slopes, cruising long runs and very challenging on/ off piste skiing – meaning groups of different abilities are able to enjoy the same mountain areas. Lift passes give access to an Italian and Swiss ski area. The cosmopolitan resort is fantastic for any group or families, being able to offer a varied selection of leisure activities, peace and quiet, great nightlife, and superb scenery that can be enjoyed at whichever pace suits you. Its pedestrianised town centre is home to a many shops and mouth watering restaurants making the resort
popular to many nationalities, in both summer and winter – you will never tire of the views!

Courchevel 1650 is lower down the valley, and contrasts nicely with it’s glamorous neighbour – the celebrity haunt of 1850. A friendly,chic ski resort that has much to offer with a welcoming atmosphere encompassing its own unique character and style. Piste wise, there are some cruisey wide blue runs in 1650, where frequently you will often find some of the best snow and quietest slopes in Courchevel.

MERIBEL (winter)

Meribel nestles in the Les Allues Valley at the centre of the world’s largest ski area, les Trois Vallees, making it a convenient base from which to access 600km of piste. As well as the two main resorts, Meribel and Meribel-Mottaret, the valley also includes a number of traditional villages. Together they form one of the most popular destinations for British skiers. The resort was founded by a British Colonel, Peter Lindsay, in 1938 who returned in 1946 with architect Christian Durupt.They set strict building guidelines for the resort to maintain it’s Savoyard style and today the resort’s perennial popularity is due not only to its extensive skiing, but also to the attractive chalet-style architecture.

MERIBEL AND COURCHEVEL give access to the famous ‘Les Trois Vallees’ ski areas. The Three Valleys is the largest ski area in the world with 600km ski slopes which equates to 2,500 hectares of groomed runs. The snow cannon count currently lies at 1500! The area boasts 200 ski lifts that can transport 260,000 skiers hourly! |

France’s alternative to Switzerland’s St Moritz, Megeve was the original purpose built resort. This rustic village offers a medieval pedestrian centre, brightly coloured sleigh taxis, plus a good selection of lavish shops and restaurants. The extensive gentle skiing offers intermediates and beginners a chance to put some mileage under their skis and enjoy beautiful scenery. Neighbouring resorts covered on the Mont Blanc pass and day trips to Chamonix offer challenges to more extreme skiers.
Its close proximity to Italy, Geneva, Chamonix and Lake Annecy make this an ideal summer base too.

Morzine and Avoriaz make up the Portes du Soleil area which spans across two countries, France and Switzerland. The trans- frontier ski area is unique and is a good rival to other popular French resorts that make up the Three Valleys and Paradiski. A lively year round resort with traditional alpine charm and architecture, coupled with it close proximity to Geneva, make it a popular destination. 6km away is Les Gets offering 2 ski areas and even a snow park. This small traditional resort offers atmosphere, charm, a pretty village centre with an ice rink and bars/restaurants and is a platform to the Portes du Soleil ski area.
In summer the resort has many beautiful walks, mountain biking, golf, kayaking, horse riding... an ideal summer adventure park

Tignes enjoys high altitude, a fantastic snow record and a famous neighbour, Val D’Isere, to which the ski area is linked. The ski area known as the Espace Killy (so named after France’s Olympic downhill skiing champion Jean Claude Killy); offers over 300kms of pisted skiing and some of Europe’s most spectacular scenery. A snow park, glacier and infrastructure for mountain access that few resorts can match, make this a popular choice as it offers a huge terrain for skiers of all abilities. The resort is purpose built and is proud to be improving the architecture of the resort and its’ portfolio of luxury chalets it has to offer. The resorts provides excellent nightlife, a good selection of restaurants and shops, split between the four villages. Summer glacier skiing is available.
